The interconnections of nationalism, colonialism, and racism are the subject of Marcel van Eeden's 70-part series, " 6 August 1870. " The starting point for his artistic research is the fate of Abdel Kader Ben Lahcen, a colonial soldier from North Africa who died in 1870 during the Franco-Prussian War. Van Eeden uses photographs and historical quotations to reveal what has long been hidden.
