Kent Dorn was born in South Carolina and has an M.F.A from the University of Houston (2005). One of his mentors through the program was the acclaimed Canadian artist Christian Eckart, whom the gallery also represents. Both live and work in Houston. Of his 2008 solo exhibition the Globe and Mail wrote:
“Nobody paints like Kent Dorn. You could even argue, I suppose, that the young, Houston-based artist scarcely paints at all, in the usual sense, but, rather, makes pictures as if they were constructions. Creepy, dissipated constructions at that. There are only eight pictures making up Monument, Dorn’s new exhibition at Toronto’s Clint Roenisch Gallery, but given their force, eight is enough.”
